I strongly recommend that everyone goes to the Steam forums to read the awesome reactions to the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2. I love it when the internet gets itself all wound up and throws a little hissy fit. It’s very entertaining to watch. For every reasoned argument there are five people who feel ‘cheated’, ‘betrayed’ or in some other way wronged by Valve’s audacity. ‘It’s too soon!’ they cry. But annual installments of games are hardly new. Admittedly the point some of the forumites are making is that this feels like the EA tactic of throwing games after games after games, but that’s just how it goes these days, if Valve have enough content to make another game, then let them. Who cares? It’s another decent title in a market which is slowly filling with ‘family fun’ drivel.
I never got round to replying to this, but the poster compelled to write ‘L4D2 is like flogging a dead horse’ made my day. To my mind it’s more like flogging a horse that is very much alive and giving birth to half a dozen little ponies, but the trick is, every pony is made of money. In fact it’s more the flogging of a cash filled zombie Pinata and I for one applaud it. L4D2 should NOT be free. It should NOT be an expansion, it should be exactly what it looks to be, another stunning installment of a game that almost instantly became one of my top 10 of all time. Well done Valve.
Couldn’t agree with you more. Frankly, if Left 4 Dead was a “beta test” then I’ve been beta testing Tiger Woods PGA Tour for 20 years. Madden and FIFA for longer. Hell, the first Grand Theft Auto must have been a tech demo for Grand Theft Auto 4. Unbelievable response from a community that apparently loves Left 4 Dead.
After all, they don’t HAVE to buy it when it comes out. If they’re enjoying the first one, why don’t they just keep bloody playing that?
Hmm, your poll is missing an “Evaluate” option
Pfft. Snap decisions only! Evaluation would add some sort of merit to the answer! It’s all about mindless clicking! (Yeah I’ll fix that…I was very tired)
